A great song and a good start to a new thread.
Most beats have well known hotspots. For various reasons, large numbers of fish will occupy certain pools and many anglers will concentrate their efforts on these spots, often with good reason. I prefer some peace and quiet, so I'll avoid such places when they get too busy.
I know a number of my local beats pretty well, and occasionally I discover a pool or lie which has changed for the better over winter and starts to produce fish - and nobody else knows about it!
It's difficult to keep these places secret for long, but finding such places can give you a big advantage because they don't get hammered by other anglers.
Perhaps what I'm saying is more relevant to the small and medium size spate rivers, rather than the classic big 4 rivers?
