Anyone fished this Beat ? Have a day end of month and am looking for any info, will it be worth a go for sea-trout in the evening? Had a look on FishEsk website but it has no catches or much info.

I've said it before and I have no hesitation in saying it again - Fishesks website is CRAP!! You'll get info from forum members though.

Hi Webbie
Fished there once last season. This beat needs water to fish well. From memory there is a smashing pool at the end of the beat with a good bit of deep water with a fast stream running in. A lot of fish hold in this pool.
Where the hut is at the middle of the beat, walk down to the water and turn left. The bank is full of large trees and there is a good long pool here - ideally fished from the other bank but easy enough to fish from your bank. It is also deep and holds fish. Further up is ok - there is good pool by the island although the path is not so good up there. Allthe other pools need water.
Enjoy

The Ministers pool, which is between the hut and the corner, looking downstream, is the best pool on the beat, given decent water. The others are OK. The pool just above the bridge is not so big but can be productive. Unfortunately one of the best pools...."poachers pool" is now with the Canterland beat.

Canterland is lovely-from the runs up by the bridge to the bottom pool with the wires over it looking down to the top of the Morphies beat away in the distance.
Do Joseph Johnstone's still own it?
Once stepped thro the undergrowth at the top of the beat and was just about to step onto the edge of the gravel and saw what I thought was a naked baby thro the reeds that had drowned and had been washed down in the spate a couple of days before that was settling back.
Turned out to be child's doll but it gave me a serious bloody fright that caused me to look away and gingerly take a second look once my heart had stopped pounding. I'll never forget it as long as I live.

I agree with sloggi, water is essential.I have fished this beat for the last three years in october.Ministers is a good pool,IMO upper gallery is better since thats where i 've had most luck. Matt Rammage is the ghillie and he will keep you right!

Webbie,
Used to fish Gallery regularly a number of years ago and it can be a cracking beat with a little water. From memory the main pools are
Top pool opposite the Balmacewan hut (cant remember the name but requires water to fish well.
Aran Pool, a couple of hundred yards upstream from the Gallery Farm - good pool with fish close in to right bank - used to be difficult to fish due to overhanging trees.
Lairds pool, immediately upstream of Gallery farm - nice looking water with a streamy neck and deeper tail
Gallery (or Lower Gallery?), immediately below gallery farm recognisable from the whin bushes growign on the far bank my personal favourite in all water heights. Regularly see fish here.
Ministers pool, downstream of Gallery, as mentioned above
Hatton Pool - big swirly pool on bend - holds fish well but takes a bit of working out. Experienced a remarkable run of fish one early May day here - they were litererally bouncing off me as I stood in the thin water at the neck
There is a long slow thin section before the last pool just above the railway bridge.
Haven't fished the beat for a few years so pools might have changed a bit. Fancied it this year but have been too busy.........next year maybe.
Post a report!

Thanks to all who replied. Gives you a insight into what to expect , as so often water levels can make all the difference on certain beats. Still looking for my first fish this season! Its been hard going this year on the Don. I have been going for brownies the past month just to get some sport. A few Sea-Trout about now but its been cold come 9pm still things can only get better.

A mate of mine was fishing Morphies yesterday and told me he saw plenty of fish but only had one pull all day. Three rods fishing and no fish landed.
With yesterdays and todays rain the river should be up. Keep your eye on the Fish Esk website as it will give you water levels. I agree with DW the site is pretty poor.
Good Luck, Look forward to your report.
