Hi All, Anyone know where I can get some small cascades tied on double hooks? Need them for a trip up to the Tyne on Friday so time is short Cheers Jon

Cheers Gordon, had a few drinks with Ronie when I was up on the Helmsdae for the opening week. He is a really nice guy and several of his creations have already graced my flybox Cheers Jon

Hi Springer - we are fishing the Riverdale beats. Our fingers are firmly crossed. We spoke to a Ghillie on the beat last year who said small flies are sometimes required, hence we thought we would give them a bash.
Cheers

Which beat are you fishing? Redeswood or Chesters?

Redeswood I think. There are 4 of us so we may have both.

Hi Pond, The water is falling and will continue to fall through friday; I'd suggest you follow the advice from the Ghillie and fish small flies. However you might want to try a wee mix, like stoats tail, white tailed shrimp or even a skating Collie. Tight lines.

Good luck, but don't get your hopes up. Redeswood is a terrible low water beat. I took Springer there last year on the gamble of a kielder release but they did not release. The beat has NO flow in low water.
If your with a good bunch and you are staying at the hotel you should have a good time. If so, make sure you have a steak -they are superb.
Hope you don't think i am being too pessimistic but I'd prefer to know the facts before i go somewhere...

The fishing can be hit or miss, but if staying at the Hotel or I can do is ditto tyneandrew (make sure you have a steak -they are superb.) I stayed 5 nights and had a steak 4 out of the 5 nights, they are fantastic. P.S. Watch out for the Friday night music night, they can be hit or miss a bit like the fishing.

Unfortunately, the hotel was full. But we have hired one of the cottages the hotel owns.
Does anyone know the number of the River Level Service on the North Tyne? I am praying for a Kielder release......... :-)

Yeah the steaks are great but so are the afters..
Are there any fish that far up already? The recent 'spate' barely wet the ground did it?

The Tyne's were up for quite a few days last week which gave fish plenty of time to run the river. In May they soon shoot up river.
The long and short of it is there are hardly any fish in the river.

The junction pool with the Rede should have a few resident fish.
Catching them will be the problem!

4cms below normal summer level. What about the seatrout? Am considering moving the focus to the evening..........

Would agree with this , a wee size 14 silver stoat variant (hackle and wing with small JC eyes) tied on a silver double does the business.A tiny Dee Sheep is a good alternative

Similar to splash's suggestion- the silver shrimp This is a Ness pattern from the 70s devised by graham mckenzie. I have been making a few recently and for the sea trout im looking for tonight I will be using this on a 14 double-I have dispensed with the wound hackle in preference for a few strands of fox as beard hackles. tight lines Pond macd
