Just received a phone call to take up a spare rod on Stobhall on the Tay tomorrow. Anybody fished it before, any real fishy bits, recommended line?

Thanks Macd, I usually check into Fishtay every evening to find out what's been caught!! I know, sad isn't it I was wondering if anybody has first hand fishing experience. I'll probably give the harling a miss and stick to fly from the bank. Any croys or such to concentrate on?

I met a friend in Tesco's the on Wednesday who had just fished Stobhall that day with his 12yr old son. Turns out Blairgowrie angling club had booked four days all expenses paid for their members to use..... but had failed to organise it and tell anyone. I believe there were 6 rods on the beat per day.... four on the two boats harling and two on the bank. Anyway, im told that two of the four days had no anglers at all!! what a waste! and he heard at the last minute so took his son (he's self employed you see!! lucky swine!) So anyway, they had one from the boat which was returned and his son took one within 5 casts from the bank! The biggest 8lb'er i've ever seen! They had 2 ghillies on the beat.... but whether thats the norm i dont know?? but other than that info....which isn't really much info! i've no more to report! good luck all the same!

fruin, give me a phone asap. You will enjoy Stobhall Bob Campell is the headman there ,over 40yrs experience, ask Bob,he seriously knows what he is about,The other ghillie is Ernie,he has been there with Bob a long time, The big plus is that they are getting a fish most days so you have to be in with a chance. I have been a member of Blairgowrie angling club since the late sixties, nothing changes ! That well known phrase or saying which ends in brewary seriously does apply.nuff said.

Well folks, I never even managed a kelt. To be fair I think Stobhall probably benefits from a bit more water for the fly. I think there were three kelts caught; not by me, but I had an anti kelt fly on Spent all but the last half hour this afternoon helping, or trying to help, somebody cast a fly in a downstream stinker of a wind. I'll get my springer yet!!!
