???now then lads, a question for you, especially, for the lads in scotland. why, is the fishing, so expensive in scotland. surely there must be local clubs, that are interested in visiting fishers. and, surely they must have, decent fishing to offer the visitor. a friend of mine, pay's £500 for a week on the nith, in the summer. i pay, £60 for the season, on the river wear, durham. rated the second best salmon river in england, and i know,a lot were caught last season. do they only want people, with, bulging wallets in scotland ?? ..............gavan................

gavan,
there are plenty of clubs offering dayticket fishing.
most associations offer this and you can expect to pay £20-30. You can fish rivers such as the Ness and Helmsdale. Some of this can be excellent.
The reason much of the private fishing is so expensive is simple economics- supply and demand. cheers.

I think its horses for courses?? but i might be wrong!!
I get about 4miles of fishing on the River Ericht ( a tributary of the might Tay!) for £30 a year.... and that includes two Trout Lochs. The Ericht has a run of Salmon between 10,000 and 15,000 Salmon! Now thats value!
I think that there is good value out there... its just a case of trying to find it! Most river sytems tend to have an Angling Club of some sort and from what i've heard they are all good value!?! Maybe its a case of the rich folk cant catch fish unless its on a wonder beat!! so they bump the prices to suit!! hahaha says me!! Mr not caught a Salmon yet! others will know a lot more than me... thats just a suggestion! John.
Bye the way... hows the Oracle?? been out yet?

Gavin Most angling clubs have tickets between £20- £30 per day. Our local club is £30. Most beats on my river cost between£200 and £300 for a prime week per rod. The Deveron has the fifth highest salmon catch by rods in Scotland. If you look at http://www.fish(insert river name here).co.uk and click on the availability links you will find plenty of fishing with a price quoted. My river info can be found at www.fishingthedeveron.co.ukFrank

Gavan You can get access to two beats of the Tyne (migratory fish run of around 48,000+ in 2004) and a beat on the Rede for the total sum of £22 a season if you know where too look.

There are plenty of great club waters around Inverness.
The Ness club water had near 500 fish last year, with 95% of them caught between August and October, The Conon has a prolific club water during the grilse run ( July- mid August). As has been said, most rivers have club waters up here, its just a matter of going at the right time of year.
