I do hope none of our members have been eating Salmon sushi lately, because the chances are you are going to have arsehole problems soon and I do not mean lager louts.
Yours in sport Jake.

I am a regular rod on the lower stinchar and can confirm that approx 25% of our current catch has the vent problem.
Worrying!

I gutted a grilse the other day for a guy, it showed the symtoms on the vent. On opening it up there was an area about 4ins long leading to vent of what looked like cojealed blood, it had small circular worms on this area. If it hasn't got fins, breasts or a trigger I don't much about it, otherwise I would put quite a good photo up on this site.

If the blood was congealed when the fish was alive I would doubt that it would survive very long like that? I suspect the blood congealed afterwards and hope that this is the case. There's some more interesting stuff here which has another link to worth following. www.aquatyer.com/cms/articles.php?req=read&article_id=64

The information isn't just interesting, it is disturbing. I am horrified to think how many fish wouldn't be able to spawn, never mind the resulting consequences.

In mid-August there were a couple of cases I saw in fresh run fish caught on the Camel in Cornwall. Apparently they've appeared in Devon like this since last year.

Ispoke to Dr David Summers fishery managerfor TDSFB who told me to be sure to tell our guests to make sure to wash and disinfect their hands immediately after cleaning fish with"the problem". Because IF the wee worm enters our internal organs it can or may prove fatal. Scary stuff indeed
