How is the snow looking on the hills up there this week? Is the Deeside catchment gathering a bit more of the white stuff?

Plenty snow up Deeside Andrew and loads more to come apparently...thank god! Not nice seeing the Dee at summer level in February.

A large dumping of snow last night. There is about half a foot here in Inverness and I hear that quite a few roads on speyside and deeside are shut due to the snow.
There are further falls expected in the Aberdeen regions today and tomorrow. Lets hope it thaws gradually and not all at once.

Aberdeen is a t gridlock today. Biggest dump of snow I remember for long time. Most of the region is snowbound. Northsound reckon we will get another 15cm today.
keeping fingers crossed it melts slowly.........

Hopefully it will last a while into the spring, on the very tops anyhow. I remember reading an article by Bill Currie in The Field a few years ago and there was a picture of snow still on the hill tops in mid May on the upper Dee.
Is it still the case that snow can keep rivers topped up a little in the later spring, or has global warming lessened the likely-hood of this in the past few years?

The snow will help keep levels up in the spring but the trouble we have on the Deveron is that the catchment is not high - high and a return to very mild temperatures will brinh most of it down quickly. However as long as the catchment is wet the peat bogs will allways retain some moisture to release slowly.

Malcolm - A tractor will be useful for this weather, as well as for getting down to The Glebe in the summer.

Malcolm, I do feel sorry for you, but if buy a car that sounds like a soft drink, then what do you expect.
As for not cathing fish.....it's just a phase your going through....you'll grow out it (-:
Me, I haven't cast a line since Oct 5th, have been knee deep in snow here in France since November and will probably arrive at Crathes on March 20th to be greeted by a massive snow melt and the river sitting at a 3ft!! Can't bloody wait though (-:

Oh no! It's now snowing in Glasgow which means I'll probably have to drive all the way to Cargill on the Tay at about 30mph in the morning.

Thanks Owen,
It has now stopped in Glasgow as well. Let's hope it stays off at least until tomorrow.

Kercock,
I always like a challenge, especially when my car is in the garage and I've borrowed my father in laws! ;D I did see the T&S this month and I've a feeling that the young captour of the fish is the daughter of a Loch Lomond angler. At least one of the guys on the Loch was telling me that a friend of his was fishing Cargill and his daughter got an eleven pounder. Looking forward to Cargill, but I think I'm looking forward to my two days on Kercock a wee tad more!

Graham I am not saying that some parts of the country have not had lots of snow but that as a nation we seen to getting a bit soft when it comes to cold weather, central heating, double glazing and cavity wall insulation have spoiled us. Its a little later than normal but not that extreme. As you said
