Simply put, it is a spey cast where the power largely comes from the lower hand.
Traditional speycasting tends to emphasise power from the upper hand, with the power stroke somewhat like swinging an axe when chopping wood. The underhand stroke is shorter than in the traditional style, with the power coming from pulling the bottom of the rod back and up with the lower hand, pivoting the rod round the upper hand, which moves very little. A hard 'stop' can be achieved by whacking the butt of the rod into your belly.
The technique originates in scandinavia, and is generally associated with the short belly lines that seem to be popular there. On the whole it suits fast, tip actioned rods.
