I reckon he's got one of those maps of the river showing all the pools and beats.

I think someone has done an updated map of the river showing the revised beat boundaries. Certainly I saw a map somewhere - I think it may have been in the Wester Elchies hut - when I was up a few weeks ago that included Upper Arndilly, the 'postie's beat' (is it properly called Inverfiddich?), and Arndilly as it currently stands - ie with the left bank continuous from the Piles to the Cobble Pot.
On the subject of maps and Arndilly, I've seen an old map that marked the Cobble Pot as 'Coble Pot'. Does anyone know if it was there that the Arndilly estate used to do their netting? If so does the pool's name originally derive from the boat used, and the spelling has been changed over the years? Or was the old map just spelt wrong?

Graham, I have been told that Arndilly in fact retained the right to net one day a month right up to the 1950's, though obviously the owners chose not to exercise their right. I don't know if that's correct. Certainly the landlord of the Fiddich Inn said that when he worked there the old nets were still in a store somewhere.
