I have booked 2 days on the Forres Angling Association water towards the end of August. Who has fished the water before and can offer a few tips about pools etc.
Cheers Dave

I have only fished the water once, at the beginning of September. I fished for over a week and landed one and lost another. I was told that August had been spectacular, although a lot of people fishing. Anyway, the most popular pools included Collin's, Anton's, The Dump, and the Stony Pool. There is a lot of lovely fly water. I was told it fished better in low water, as that prevented the fish from running up to the private beats. However, the day I landed my fish, the river was fining down from a rise (although it was still fairly low). Speak to Ken at the tackle shop in Forres. He's a nice guy and very helpful. He will sort you out, telling you where to go, what flies to use etc. I was told that bright flies do well on the Findhorn, such as Cascades and other brightish shrimp patterns. All the other local fishermen were also really helpful and happy to provide information.
Best of luck for your trip. I may well see you there if I go again at that time.

Leo thanks for the reply. I will be fishing on the 21st and 23rd of Aug. I was planning to fish the Spey as I am on holiday with the family staying just outside Aviemore but cost and availability of fishing were the limiting factors. I picked the Findhorn as I am slowly trying to fish all the famous and not so famous rivers in Scotland, I have time on my side to do this but not the cash so I am looking for a sponsor. Its only 1hrs drive to Forres so I will still be able to get a full 2 days fishing done. I spaced them apart by a day to please the wife as she keeps telling me that she and the kids are on holiday too.
