What usually happens on the Lochy from now until the end of season? Sorry, what do you mean? If you are talking fishing catches then water levels are all important. However, in general July and September are considered to be the best months on the Lochy. July for the grilse and of course by September the river should be full of fish including the Autumn run.

Apart from the club water (beat 7 ) is the river totally private/ syndicate? Is it at all possible for a single rod to book some days, even for 2008? I've passed the river on numerous occasions and since taking up salmon fishing, would love to give it a try. cheers

You have to take a 4 rod beat for a week. There might be some give early season, taking only 3 days for example, but there will be few salmon around. A few members of this forum have weeks on the river, myself included, maybe you could get in if a vacancy occurs with one of them. I hear some of the Malt Whisky Valley boys are getting their passports in order to travel west to the land of the Weggie, next week. WG on a west coast river Are you hiringa Ghillie ;D Do well lads, but leave some for the other forum members who are there the week after, a nice (full) bottle of a speyside malt left in Ivy Cottage would be much appreciated. Cheers, Jock

Seige no, but having fished the king of Scottish rivers the queen seemed the next logical step. The Spey in April and the Lochy August perhaps not prime trime but not that far off. (Anyone interested in a half week on the Ness in September, certainly not cheap, but the company and fishing is top notch. We will have Hardy Perfects and I might even pack a silk line, but as the GRitchie man is in the party I would reckon we will give a reasonable account of ourselves.

Keep us informed on how the lads are doing before you go up wed. Must be hammering them today after rain at weekend. The loch will be well above the level for compensation flow so they will be generating and that should keep levels up even if little rain for the rest of the week Can't see you failing ;D
Cheers,
Jock

Spoke to Malcolm today. The party had a fish each. Not seeing as many as he had expected.
I am sure things will pick up. You will not get a better bunch of fishers to get a good week in the book.

Plus 1 other Gordon - total 5
Thats on for a 30 fish week for 4 rods. Strange because i had a slight air of disappointment when they said they had only 5!
Very good going tbh, and if it picks up then maybe 50, which is exceptional by any standards

Gordon,
Lochy tends to be a river where the fish are not "showy" for whatever reason, but they are definitely there. It's not unusual to catch 2 or 3 without seeing a fish. Had an email form Jon Gibb today - still fishing very well -even better than late july and some MSW fish appearing too. Hopefully they will stay around till next week.
