A pal of mine who comes fishing for trout on a Sunday rang me yesterday, Saturday. He asked that when I was going home last night could I take Tarka home with me ! I asked what he meant, he replied the bugger was with me for two and a half hours last week and an hour and a half the week before Twats the fishin' but great to watch. it shows no fear ,seems to be a young one and the first he saw of it was when playing a trout a bloody great swirl appeared and up popped the otter. He reckoned that it seemed to be fascinated by him flyfishing. it was watching him whilst he was watching it ;D I saw an otter a couple of times this week. for the guests its a once in a lifetime experience, for the fishing of course its a no no,but we can always go to another area ! Any of you guys have otter incidents

I regularily see otters on the Border Esk, usually at first light. The sound of an otter eating a fish nearby during the night was a bit disturbing until I realised what it was! 2 years ago the chap I was fishing with got a bit of a fright to say the least! He was waist deep fishing late at night when an otter tried to take the sea trout that was in his fish bass while it was hanging in the water. Can you imagine that? One minute fishing away in complete darkness, line coming round nicely etc, next minute in a tug of war with a fully grown dog otter which appeared from nowhere! He went home shortly after the incident (to change his underpants, I think!)

kercock, this seems unbelievable but its def true.the chap i have done most of my fishing with this year saw an otter appear in a pool, shouted over to a bailiff (of the tyne fed waters), "get yourself down here theres a bloody big otter in here"the baillif came down to the waterside and watched as the otter climbed up my mates leg,up his chest, and stared, him eyeball to eyeball,(demonstrated to me by him putting his arm and fist ten inches in front of him at eye level).its without a doubt true story, had i not known the people involved i would never have believed it.

Fished the River Towy earlier on this year for sea trout, caught a brownie of over a pound kept it for brekky and popped it in my gye net until I could get back to my bag,had a cheeky otter pay me regular visits right at my feet trying to get hold of it for a free feed.Same stretch last year hung my bag well up a tree containing the midnight feast of pies n fruit cake for me n my pal and watched a badger do its best to get there before us.Most rivers I fish now regularly see otters or have them pay a visit, when deep wading they show no fear and will come to within a foot or so to pour scorn on my technique.Seems a popular pastime for otters.Don't mind the otters but wouldn't want to tussle with Brock for the contents of the snap box. Living so close to the River and in such a fish populated area..... i'm fortunate enough to see Otters on a very regular basis.... aswell as Kingfishers. In the winter is when i see the Otters the most, but i must confess i have no stories about them..... just the usual playing about..... and killing fish...but nothing out the ordinary...... they dont half keep you awake at night sometimes though with their whistles! As for Mink...... i've practically had them run up my arm and pose for photos!

When I started on the beat I'm on. Mink were everywhere, some years on we started to see otters on a regular basis, suddenly,VERY few mink. I can say for sure I have seen only one mink in a season for the past seven years. But plenty sightings of Otters in any season !!!! coincidence, I doubt it,but., I do'nt know.....for sure.
