Tried this beat a couple of times last autumn to no avail and thought that the beat was spoilt by wormers and spinners hogging the pools and not stepping through.. I did see some fish jump and its probably the closest water to me where I can travel from Cheshire for the day and get a ticket..
Hows it fishing just now? Is it worth making the long trip?
Any advice much appreciated - JJ

going on word of mouth only here but reports tell of colored grilse being in the river and the back end run not showed up yet? mind this was from middle reaches so maybe bottom end seeing fresh run fish maybe even some of the big boys? the nith news site doesn't report much but not sure what you can take from that

HI. I,m thinking of having a trip up to the burgh waters . Is there anything happening at the moment? Have the larger fish shown up yet? Any info would be gratefully appreciated. Its a long way to travel if the fishing is not going to happen. I have fished the water before and know the stretch pretty well. In fact I had one of my best days fishing a few years ago, Caught 4 took 1. Mind you the water conditions were spot on.

Hi my friend who is a member of the association and lives nearby tells me it has been in spate and unfishable since the middle of last week. Have a look on the river report on the River Nith website www.rivernithfishings.co.uk it may be a few days before it can be fished if the rain stops the forecast doesn't look good. Cheers Pudsey

Hi All, Yeah the Nith was a touch high on saturday so I think it was a good call to not make the trip down there on the saturday morning & have a lie in instead. It was still raining on monday morning when i got my flight back down south. I dont know how long it takes for the Nith to run off after a heavy spate? Looks like my salmon season is over unless I can get down to the Fowey before the 15th of December. Cheers G

3 salmon off the Nith this week:
Great News! I've heard of three fresh fish taken this week. Jim Patterson had two (one returned) last Saturday on Dalswinton. Both fish were about 7lbs weight. Lee Graham had a similar fish on the fly at Castledykes on the Dumfries Town Water. This fish was also carefully returned.
