As some may recall I mentioned previously I was heading to the River Annan for 2 days to fish with some American chums who've moved to that part of the world. Despite my best efforts I generally got pretty cold and wet In fact, we all did On top of that I don't have much in the way of positive comments about the beat descriptions as provided by the well known Scottish based internet booking site we organised the fishing through Wildly apocryphal might be a suitable description We caught sod all as the river swelled into an autumnal spate late on Friday (mind you, we had sought out shelter in a pub by then ), by close of play on Saturday (about 11am when we agreed that retiring for the day was the best course of action) there was all sorts of debris heading downstream including what looked like most of a deciduous forest At one point, in the hopeless conditions on Saturday, it seemed the most likley happening would have been Noah going by and asking if we'd all like a lift down to Annan...... Will we go back to the Annan - yes, I really liked the look of some of it but when we return it will not be to the beats we were on this time. Roll on '07

Never mind Betanut, there's always next season - I think the words under your avatar say it all!

Sorry to here you did not have good conditions for your visit. It is what happens on spate rivers in the Autumn. I don't think the Annan has fished particularly well this year.
Macsalmo is on Brocklerigg tomorrow, hopefully conditions will be kind to him.

Sorry to here you did not have good conditions for your visit. It is what happens on spate rivers in the Autumn. No need to be sorry Jock It was grand to be out for a cast and with my background of fishing on spate rivers I should have known the autumnal heavens would open just in time for my end of season 'bash' I think Brocklerigg has great potential, as fishery management is my 'background' it was a beat that stimulated me to wish for an unlimited budget and a team of JCBs for a week. It could be made into a really superb piece of fly water.
