Just heard today that Arni Balderssun of Icelandic fame has been given control of this marvellous beat for the 2007 Season. Guess what..... the price of a weeks let in the spring has almost trebled.
Tough news for regular tenants. I would guess that there will be some vacancies coming up if you can afford just short of £2k for a rod for a week. The lets will probably be filled with people used to paying Icelandic prices who wont blink at £2k.
Question is: what will it do to the price of other beats once the word gets round to other proprietors ??

I was told this a few weeks ago by Wilma at the previous agents of the beat. My immediate thought was that it was bad news? So long as they practice C&R

It is one of the best beats in the country, let alone the river.
The Dee seems to be gaining more of an international reputation, its already very popular with Scandanavians.
I suppose with added interest from overseas, and owners hearing what prices other beats are fetching, prices can only go up.
If the fish are still there???

Having fished there this year for the first time.......it is a wonderful beat. I can see why it's so productive, even for the novices. Would I pay £2k a week for it...no way....even if I could afford it. I would feel I was getting ripped off. Plus it's not 3 times better than Crathes Castle , so I'll stick with my week there.
I still like to feel I'm getting value for money when I book my fishing and Arni B is certainly not offering that!!!! He won't be short of "takers" though.
BTW, has all beats on the Dee moved their weeks forward this year? Our usual third week in March has been moved to the last week. Not complaining but is this consistant with other beats?

I just got back last Saturday from 2 weeks in the Seychelles fishing remote attols for Giant Trevally and bonefish. I thought salmon could pull till i went on this trip. I bust a 12 weight flyrod and lost 2 flylines on monster GT's. Also burned out the drag on a new flyreel on bonefish in less than a week !! Salmon will always be my first love though.

Fantastic Jim...you certainly get around. Was reading a season summary for Doonfoot Fishings on the River Doon (my local river, until I moved to France) and yer name popped up in there!!! You must have been anointed to catch a fish on the Doon this year )-:
Would love a go at the salt water flyfishing. sounds great.
