While dreaming of the new season, I'm trying to identify the best value spring fishing beat/s on the Dee, Don, and Spey, although I'm happy to go south to the Esks or the Tay. By "spring", I mean from February - beginning of April. By "best value", I mean beats that offer good fishing chances at reasonable prices.

The Dee is better than the Spey early in the year, then by roughly the end of March the Spey starts to overtake the Dee.
After that it all much depends on water temperature and height, they are both pretty well entangled in the spring anyway.

Sure - I agree with that, but where to get good value on the Dee in the spring Knappach is probably the best value in Feb & Mar - everywhere else appears to be out of my price range!

I've joined the ADAA this year - just got over the shock of the joining fee and am now awaiting the season ticket fee However, I don't know the water too well - which bits are good in the early season? I like Knappach and you're right about the low water fishing. The Grantown Association water doesn't appear to warm up until mid-April though. Lower Dess seems to be the next best value beat - but I don't know the water.
