Graham knows about this beat i believe and has previously commented on it - not sure where though? I just find it amusing that one of the pools is called suicide

I believe that's one of the easier pools to wade.

I just find it amusing that one of the pools is called suicide Yup that's absolutely right - the pool called suicide was so called after a ballot, held for locals to name the pool, infact before the beat was named. It was the head ghillie at the time, on reciept of the proposed names for the pool that said "och, Commonty fek, we canny be callin' it that" !! Hence how the beat came to be known. ;D ;D

Commonty comes into its own in high water (the higher the better) when you will be mostly fishing from the bank, as Graham says. There is still every chance as the river drops.
Suicide has not been especially productive in the last few years, perhaps as a result of some of the "improvements" on the Sluie side. All the pools offer a chance though and it is worth taking the time to fish carefully through the Points at the bottom of the beat, which may appear a bit featureless but will definitely hold fish, especially if the water is cold. The Garden Pool is a delight to fish, with quite reasonable wading. Elsewhere, use a stick and you should be fine.
The best thing about Commonty is the setting. You are well off the road, surrounded by woodland and beautifully secluded. You may get a bit of real estate envy though looking at Woodend House.
Enjoy your visit and give us a report!
