Fishing here next Saturday (27th). Will fly fish and probably spin too. Any tips, advice, experiences would be most welcome... Probably little chance of a springer, but you never know

In the fly department take some made up with fox hair (black and yellow)they work well. And if your taking some ironmongery copper toby 18-20g are about right. They are picking springers up on this beat earlier every year so you never know.Tight lines. Alan

Anyone heard whether CG have caught any springers yet? I'm not sure they will report to the fishtay site this season.

i had a shot with the fly with a hi-d line and brass tubes just to get some practice in for the season ahead. give the ghillie john muller a phone, he'll be able to give you a good forecast of conditions for saturday. i think it should be better conditions for the fly.

I fished Coupar Grange today between 10am and 4pm with my friend.
The water was about 1 1/2' above summer level. The air was about 6 degrees with water colder. Their was no wind in the morning but it did get quite blustery during the afternoon.
We both caught 2 kelts. I had mine on a 2 1/2" Red Beastie while my friend had his on a small blue/silver Magnum rapala. I was using a 7g weight and, on occasion, a 10g.
I went through the pools on the lower beat with my new Carron sinker and Frodin-style disc fly (black/yellow and black/yellow/orange). No luck but line is great and flies look impressive in the water. Some of the pools are 15'+ so I had to get a spinner in deep.
Never saw a fresh fish as far as I could tell, but some kelts hopped about between 11am and 1pm. The afternoon's wind put them down.
Facilities are good and the Ghillie appears to be omniscient as well as omnipresent.
I've fished the next beat down (Islabank) which is very different. CG has good water for holding fish - deep pools with a good flow - and good pools for the fly - nice smooth with even flows. You can easily see why so many fish are caught. Islabank is flat and almsot canal-like although they have done considerable work to alleviate this.
CG is worth a go although I would be unhappy to pay nearly £100 at high season. £20 + VAT today was a bargain though.

I have fished Islabank and it has different types of water all the way through it.
The introduction of croys has certainly been good and made a big difference.
The ghillie and the facilities are also very good and with the possibility that there may be a boat introduced will add the last remaining way to fish for Salmon on this beat.

They have done a lot of much needed work. Hopefully it'll slow those fish down a bit

I have to agree with alan..A boat on that stretch of the isla is wasted unless its needed to drop these wriggly things right on there noses!!
