not many recent books on salmon, but Chris Mann has produced a couple on flies in the past few years.

I like Anthony Crossley, Floating line for Salmon and sea trout. Its a bit old school but there's a lot of good stuff in there.

This is a good thread as i had been a bit overwhelmed by the volume of material that is out there. I will now have some targeted searching to do. More to read as well.

Owen,
Graham has already mentioned Alexander Baird Keachie. However, I could also recommend Progressive Fly Fishing For Salmon by the same author. It's not as ground breaking as the title would suggest but it gives a thorough description of the basics. If I can find my copy, I'll bring it to Kercock on Saturday.

I like ABK's book its a very good read. Keachies Krill is a nice looking fly.
I read Mcelvies one too, but it was average.

Although not particularly instructive I enjoy "Rod Fishing for Wye Salmon" by J.A. Hutton.
Its sobering to read records of routine catches of a dozen or more fish per rod per day and when it was unremarkable when several 20lbers and perhaps a 30lber were taken in a day.

As well as Francis Grant , Bill Currie & the others mentioned above, I would thoroughly recommend the writings of John Ashley Cooper in particular The Great Salmon Rivers of Scotland, A Salmon Fishers Oddysey and A line on Salmon. His books can be picked up secondhand. He has passed away but his writings remain timeless and contain sound knowledge.

Not a single vote for Falkus's book on Salmon Fishing?
I think it may actually be better than his Sea Trout book as he is less focussed on his "own" water.

I have read both Hugh Falkus's Salmon & Sea Trout books. As Graham said the Salmon book is a little dated but I have to say the book answered alot of questions for me and gave me the magical confidence that I greatly needed.

Nolon , I have a load of salmon related books including some mentioned in the previous posts,. Why not come over to my house and have a look, you can borrow whatever you wish. Some I bought on E-bay I have'nt even opened yet !.Send me a PM and we can arrange it,no problem. If you have my phone No, just give me a call. If it's easier I can bring some to the river.
