Get your friend to ask to see the catch records for the last 5 and 10 years.
Some beats will fish well others just a waste of time

I have been looking at the figures for Ravenswood on Tweed for last year. This is the beat opposite Bemersyde but the difference in catch figures is dramatic From Feb till Nov the catches were 1, 2, 5, 6, 4, 1, 9, 7, 37, 60 Ravenswood 4, 8, 27, 22, 12, 3, 21, 19, 36, 96 Bemersyde This seems to be a remarkable difference for the same stretch of river. Can anyone explain this?

Graham, many thanks for that .The reason I asked is that I have taken one day a week o Ravenswood (more or less) during the syndicate season which lasts till mid september and was a bit concerned when I compared the figures but like you I'm not that keen on boats and much prefer wading so I think I made the correct choice. As you know the beat I would be extremely grateful for any advice re flies, tactics etc to use and any other advice with regards to fishing this beat (which I have never fished before).Grateful as ever for your invaluable advice.

Not a bad day then. There only seems to be a part time ghillie during that syndicate spell so maybe you have something there. Here's hoping the fishing earlier on although obviously not likely to be up to back end standard is good. As you (or was it WG) said "Once the first fish is out of the way....." Well that was caught on the second last day of the season last year.......so here's hoping for a bumper year (well half a dozen would do nicely!) Thanks again for your advice.
