I have the 7/8 trout reel and for what it cost i think its a really decent reel.
Has anyone got the Salmon version?
If so what do you think of it?
Cheers Tops.

A good friend is starting salmon fishing this season and he is wondering what rod to buy he plans to fish mostly the tay, tummel and summer trip to the spey.He has been offered a bloke 15ft rod for 200 and was wondering if this a good buy.Hes looking to spend around 200-350.I see IG partridge rods are out now would one of these be suitable for abeginner or should he go for the tried and trusted norway.

I would avoid the Bloke and certainly at £200 there are much better rods out there. The IG Partridge rod is a dream and the Norways are millions of times better than a Bloke. Drop Frank ( turrifftackle) on this board a PM for a deal on the IG.

Willie I purchased a Bloke 10/11 5 piece - it is not my main rod and I merely took the opportunity to equip myself with a portable spare at a reasonable price. I have only cast this rod on grass and must say it is somewhat softer than what I am used to - it does however feel quite a powerful rod - I assume you have cast one of these rods on water and I would be interested on how it performs as a spey casting tool. regards Des I would avoid the Bloke and certainly at £200 there are much better rods out there. Soft is not the word I would use to describe them. Fast. Very fast.

Rob I believe the 3 piece Bloke is a fast action [considered too fast by many on these forums] and the 5 piece was designed to be a slower, more traditional spet action. I certainly would'nt describe the 5 piece as fast. Soft is not the word I would use to describe them. Fast. Very fast.
