4 piece Norway...........are you sure this has nothing to do with attacking trees with a three piece?

That's what the lady said. They have had the prototypes out on test and the 9/10 is first into production, followed by a 10/11 later in the year.
Funny you should mention the tree thing. John Norris are no longer stocking B and W. The reason given is that B and W dont offer the same 'no questions' guarantee that other companies do, only against manufacturing faults. This apparently is hurting sales, hence Norrises knocking out all there Band W rods earlier this year.
Of course it could be to do with the margins from other manufacturers being better for JN, or any number of reasons. By all accounts they are a funny company to do business with.

Lifetime 'no questions' guarantee should be stopped. The want a new rod so stand on the old one brigade are just forcing up the prices of rods. Manufacterors obviously build the replacements into the cost. I have never had problems with B&W I have lost the odd eye on a tree, thanks to Gordon Armstrong not warning me, and the eyes were replaced for about a tenner if I remember right.

Couldnt agree more. I think the manufacturers are realising what a mistake those guarantees are.

Sportfish told me that the reason they have also stopped selling B&W is that they weren't selling because people want lighter rods.
I cannot help thinking it's something of a coincidence that JN and Sportfish (2 biggest Uk tackle retailers?)stop selling them at exactly the same time.
There are still excellent bargains to be had. I have just bought an "as new" 2nd hand Norway 15` 10/11 for £100 from a well known Uk retailer. I found my 15` 9/10 slightly overgunned with fast sinking lines (albeit they were 10/11 lines).

Sportsfish have also stopped stocking Sharpes but can't speak for JN

Well after my broken Alltmor has been lost by the PO I am in the market for a 15'. I take it that the B+W Norway is hard to beat?

Zeolite you won't go wrong with the Norway. As to which model you go for it depends on what you will be using it for most of the time. I borrowed 1 in August when BA lost my rods between connecting flights. The rod just felt right from the first cast and was so good I bought one as soon as I got home. Its much lighter than the Powerlite Speycaster that I have and has a faster action too, the finish isn't quite as nice (cheaper reel seat etc) but its the blank that does the work and it does it very well. Don't pay RRP and expect to get £100 knocked off, there is a shop in Lancaster that will do you a good deal.

As a matter of interest, Graham, and slightly off thread what is the best all round rod out there irrespective of price?

It looks like I may have to wait a while for my new rod. Wife was in at the post office and they told me it takes up to 6 weeks to process a claim. they also asked for the receipt. Which of course is in the parce as it was on it's way back to Daiwa. Looks like I will be spinning for a while.

Haven't been able to contribute much lately. I agree with Graham on this, but would also add in the Guideline rods. The LPXe is a great buy for the money and the Le Cie, being slightly more expensive, is a excellent all round rod. I have both these and a Norway and I've got to say that the Guideline shades it for me. They come in fast and medium fast actions, so ideal for different casting styles and levels. I've only tried a Meiser rod once (WG kindly gave me a cast last year at Cairnton) and it was a lovely rod. Would like to have a go with a Carron now!

I tried a 16' 9-10 Norway last week and ended up bringing it home with me. For me, it beat a more expensive and supposedly higher-spec B&W hands down.
Andy, as far as lines go, the sage of Fraserburgh has hit the nail on the head as usual. I was using it with an IG 10/11 65' line, and thought the combination worked very nicely indeed - let me know if you want to try it before buying.

Last year I bought,on the good advice of a few members.a 15' Norway 9/10 and an Ian Gordon 65' 10/11.Although being a newcomer to salmon fishing I feel really confident with this combination.I realise that as my first set-up I have nothing to compare it with, but knowing that others recommend both articles I feel totally comfortable with my purchases and feel,if I can't make this work,I should be thinking about taking up another pursuit.
Cheers

Hello All,
I´ve been lurking around this site for a while, and find the info here useful and interesting. I come from Finland, and have been flyfishing for salmon about 10 years now, mainly on Finnish and Norwegian rivers.
I use B&W rods, and Norways 13 ft 7/9, 15 ft 9/10 and 10/11 and 16,3 10/11 Kola are in my arsenal.
The reason for this post is, that I had a chance to test a farly new 15 ft Norway 9/10 few days ago, and found it to be clearly different from my own, purchased back on 2001. The new rod is clearly stiffer, faster response, and while my IG 75ft 10/11 matches perfectly my older Norway, it felt light on the new one. Also in many posts here, the 11/12 IG 75 ft has been mentioned to work well on that rod.
So, would any of you guys have knowledge about this rod range, has B&W changed the carbon fibre to a stiffer one? Or has my rod somehow lost it´s properties since the 2001?
WBR, Sauli

Graham,
I also think that carbon blanks get softer with age; my alltmor feels slower than it did when I purchased it. I think that there must be some stretch and ware in the fibres over time.
