Does anyone know the capacity of this reel when using a modern "Spey" line. Thanks. Hi Rob, I can not say for sure what the capacity is on a #1 but i can tell you that on a #2 i get 150yds of 30lb Dacron braided backing (Rio's) and a 7/8 GrandSpey or 7/8 XLT or 8/9 GrandSpey or 8/9 XLT. Looking at the spools i could probably get another30yds of backing on if i wanted to. As willie said if you want to use bigger lines go for a #3 as i get 180yds of 30lb Dacron braided backing and 9/10 and 10/11 GrandSpeys and XLT's lines on a #3. All of the above spey lines are 140ft long. I hope that helps, tight lines, brian

Thanks Brian, I was hoping to put an 8/9 line on it. I've had the reel a year or longer and not used it yet!
