Look at www.fishspey.co.ukCould do worse than Grantown. 40 mins from Inverness. Or Craigellechie, Pete would manage to keep him right. It is really to early for the Ness itself and the upper tributaries are probably fully booked

Try Grahams fishing tackle shop in Inverness. They have fishing on the river Oich - a superb spring river - and on other rivers in the area. Their telephone number is 01463 233178.

Why is it that the Ness fishes later than the upper tributaries? Is it to do with the temperature of the water coming out of Loch Ness allowing the salmon swift passage? Do the later fish spawn in the main river rather than the tribs?

Probably the fish run quickly through the short river, where the temperature stays about 40.The late running fish enter the Loch then drop back to spawn.
Certain people still intercept the odd fish, and the fish traps further up help

There is no spring run on the Ness itself.
The tributaries of loch ness (Oich,Moriston and Garry) all have good spring runs and although they have to pass through the Ness, they barely blink at it and they are through to te loch.
We do on occasions pick the odd fish up, however we rely on low water to slow them down a touch as the water doesn't drop below 40degrees due to the mass of loch ness.
