Graeme, I had a "chuck" with a Penn 16 footer a couple of years ago on the Dee. Powerful rod I'm sure but I'm afraid (if the one I used is anything to go by) it's not in the same class as most other 'affordable' salmon fly rods on the market IMHO Heavy would be one word, felt very unbalanced and slow to me, it was uncomfortable to use - but that could be just me. Anyone else? I don't want to come across as needlessly negative

Penn? Are you sure it's not a beachcasting rod? ;D The Cosmetics on a set of Fly rods I saw as samples some five or so years ago scared the shi? out of me more gold leaf than the Vatican . Wiggle testing was not impressive . We returned them as we felt unsellable !

We returned them as we felt unsellable ! Which surprises me as I thought the Penn/Sharpes 'deal' extended to rods as well as the alliance over reels (around the time of the new Aquarex rods) but very evidently it did not Glad it wasn't just me who had 'issues' with the rods

Penn? Are you sure it's not a beachcasting rod? ;D Thanks Lads Its definitely not a beach casting rod, but as Hamish says it does seem a bit unbalanced, but as a freebie will not do any harm to give it a cast Cheers Graeme
