New to this forum, I would be most grateful for some fly line advice please. I have just bought this rod 11'3" #7-9, I am new to spey casting. I have tried casting with an old Lee Wulff TT 7/8F line, however this line doesn't seem to load the rod properly. It could be my poor casting technique! Could anyone who has as used this rod please advise on a good weight/make floating line for spey/roll casting. Many thank's.

I have this rod and I use a Rio Windcutter 7/8/9 line on it. Seems to be fine with this rod. Also have a Hardy Mach 1 intermediate line rated 9 which is ok but probably a size too big.
Good rod - easily handles sea-trout and grilse. Let me know if you find a line which works really well with the rod.

I currently use a Lee Wullf tt # 8 on a G.Loomis 10ft #7 and it loads it perfectly. However , I also purchased a LW 9/10 a few years ago to use with a 15ft 9/10 rod and to say it was light for it's line rating is a severe understatement. It wouldnt cast at all on the rod it was purchased for but was great on a 12ft #7/8. Incidently , it wouldn't turn over anything but the very lightest of tips on either rod. Cutting about 6ft off the taper made a huge difference in turnover but do you really want to have to do that with a line of that price. Lovely lines to use but they definitely seem very light for their advertised weight. Get yourself a nice double taper 8 or nine floater and that should do the trick. At least if you can find one in this day and age of wf's and spey profile lines!!!

Many thanks for the replies, I am going to try a size 8 line, the rod is rated 7-9. I still haven't decided on the profile WF, DT or Spey! The river I fish is only 10-12m wide.

Forget the WF if you intend roll or spey casting. In general the heads are too short. A good quality DT with some home made tips is my choice for smallish rivers. B.

if your river isnt very wide a weight forward line will be fine

if your river isnt very wide a weight forward line will be fine Not much use for mending though , if the running line is outside the tip ring. Have always found mending very important on the smaller waters. Perhaps even more so than on larger rivers.

Does any one have any more details on this rod? I'm looking for a rod to repalce a 11 foot 7/8 Hardy Favourite and thought of the B&W, a Guideline LPXE or a Sage Z axis.
I've tried the B&W website but it doesnt seem to work - is the rod 3 or 4 piece, how long is the handle etc.
I'm happy to pay a good price for the right rod, any advice would be most welcome.

Hi Chasb, The 3-piece B&W Salmo/Sewin is on a dark matt blank (no glare). Has snake rings other than the first two which are Fuji. Handle is 23 1/2" long. Stephen J Fawcett always have these rods on sale and having just looked, the price is £300 from £377. Rated for #7-9 lines. Excellent with a floater with tips and an intermediate. Never had full sinker on it. Casts Falkus' sunk-lure with ease. I prefer to spey cast with it, but it overheads ok too. I'd recommend one
