Thought I'd pop this in here rather than the general board I'm toying with the idea of building up my own salmon rod (probably a 14 or 15 footer) and have been squinting at the web for blanks - more out there than I imagined from the 'big' companies. What I haven't tried yet is some of the other american rods/blanks - like the Sage Z Axis, Thomas & Thomas etc. if you have tried the finished product I'd be intrigued to hear how you found the rods. As I mentioned in a previous topic I tried the 15ft Sage TCR recently and liked it...... ;D Whilst I know it's not necessarily representative of the range as a whole I did try out a Z axis trout rod a couple of days ago and absolutely loved it, an absolute fishing tool So a Sage Z axis blank is a distinct possibity (if I can find a supplier at the right price) but I've seen offers on Hardy salmon blanks - Sirrus rods any good? Anyone else done this on the forum built or build your own rods? I fancy the idea, simply because I've not done it before

Hamish Have a word with Harrisons in Liverpool. If you ask to speak to Dr Steve Himself you will be fascinated by his knowledge of blanks if not a little lost. As long as you explain what you are after they will build a blank to suit your casting style and they can supply all the cork, rings etc if you want. www.harrisonrods.co.uk/Frank

Harrison blanks are very nice. I think if you wanted a one off custom blank to your specs it would cost you a bit. The blanks that they already have in their range are very good. Most of them have traditional action, but with bags of power. They also do a high power, stiffer action 15 foot blank, and new LORHIC(lo resin, hi carbon) blanks that I have yet to try. If you get in touch with Bruce and Walker, they will also give you a price list for blanks.

I built up a LOHRIC recently to take to the Alta in July....very nice too, much lighter than the HI-P but very very strong in the butt. Mick

Mick, Good to see you back on the forum LOHRIC Blanks, if you were to draw a comparison to current market models, is there a rod that has a similar blank to the LOHRIC?

Well here's a thing...I built it to test on the Dee in February...but I put it in one of my rod sacks and I think it has found its way into my stockroom by accident and I haven't seen it since !! will advise once it turns up ! M

Mick,
There is a pattern developing here; I remember ordering a blank from you and three or four turned up in the same package.
