I also have a emigma 10ft 6" 7/8 will that be ok for rivers. Some my know me from other forums and know i am a bit of a tackle tart so i have most length rods in a 7/8# I live in the sw of england so what tackle do you need to start/ Do i need a longer double hander? Hi wcb,
I fished with a single hander for salmon for a long time and it does have it's place. But i would definitely get a double hander, even for smaller rivers. You can control the line so much better and roll casting/spey casting will still get the fly a fair distance out. When you start using coneheads and weighted tubes, it really is difficult to get them moving with a single hander. My first double hander was a 13 footer, but you'll be surprised (as i was) how easy it is to handle 14ft upwards. you feel the benefit at the end of the day too as i found the single hander very hard work. hope this helps some, there are far more experienced people than me on here though, this is just my experience.
