Unless they have improved the drag for the sys 3 i would stay away from them. Had a bad experience with the system 2 on big fish in russia. It just couldn't cope with long sustained runs, eventually going into free spool. Convinced there was a fault a I sent it back to the maker, only to be informed that there was no fault

Must say I've had no problems with the drag on my system2's The drag on the salmon reels could stop a double decker bus.
Never heard of the system3 and there is no mention of it on their website.

I've seen these reels before, incidentally Mullock Madeley had a salmon size pair in a recent auction of theirs, I think they went as a pair for about £270, which was probably a bit of a steal. I have no experience of using them, but with the central drag knob and draw bar arrangement they may well have a cork drag (which in my opinion is about the best you can get). They may have been made by Abel?? They were not really available in the UK, the majority purchased from the states, I am aware that they sold for about $400 to $500 plus when they were made. The best place to get info would be from one of the American forums such as www.speypages.com. I'll put a post on for you. Lovely looking reel though, if anyone is interested I will try to post a picture.

One of our local shops has the largest System 3 (about Marquis 3 size) for sale for the past decade or so. He has it retail at $555.00 CAD, which is why I've left it there. Seems to be built like a tank.
About free spooling reels -- if it has a roller clutch, that is your problem. It's dry. Add some good reel grease or some light oil and your problem will go away.

Madkeen Please see the reply I got from the States, pretty comprehensive. www.speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?t=25642I'd be interested to know what model it is and what type of price level (in case another comes up in the future). For those that have never seen a System 3 reel before, here's a pic.
