Did anyone else try to take up this offer of a free Orvis spey line when taking out a subscription to Trout and Salmon? Has anyone received it yet?
I took this out in January 2007 and despite several phone calls (all by me) I have just been told that it might be dispatched in the next 28 days.
The magazine is great but the back-up is dreadful. I even spoke to someone on their stand at the Tweed Fair, she seemed quite embarrassed by the service that they are giving.

Johnny I had a similar experience with them last year with the C&F flybox offer. Took out the subscription in January and got the fly box in June The customer service people were quite good and very apologetic but didn't seem to know much about what was going on. Seems there was a series of disconnects between C&F and T&S although the bottom line is that its misbranding. I cancelled my subscription and now pick it up on a monthly basis instead. Their system is quite well developed in this respect though. From about 4 months prior to your subscription ending you get bombarded by reminder letters and emails warning you to renew now or you will lose all the benefits a subscription brings etc Usual stuff:carrot and stick marketing, gift to draw you in and then hassle you to death once you are a customer

Top Tip-(as the Viz would say):-
Only subscribe at the CLA Gme Fair when you get the gift in your mitts from the omnipresent fit,well-spoken Boden bedecked bird from Cheltenham Laydees College filling in on the stand "doing a liddel summah work for the mag" prior to her gap year cooking at a Mahseer station in the Himalayas.
Field/Country Illustrated/Shooting Gazette are usually all hooch related and you usually get two bottles for a two year sub.
At least you become a well-read lush or have a comforter for the queue out of the Harewood car park.

Subscribed in December
Many phone calls
Told the stock was in when it wasn't
Constant ifs and buts
Recently offered a different item instead and declined
Poor offer, they shouldn't advertise something they can't deliver to.
And now it seems some who subscribed in January have received their line.....! How does that work?
Can anyone out there beat December 06 subscription date with no line in sight?

I rang the call centre again and was told the line would be with me in 28 days. I said "That is not good enough" and asked to speak to a manager. They were not available... But a supervisor rang me back later that evening!!! They then rang again the next night and said that the line was being posted yesterday.
I haven't received it yet but watch this space.

I have been a subscriber for over 8 years now and pay by direct debit, but am seriously thinking of just getting a 12 month subscription each year so I can claim the free gifts as I get diddly squat for being a loyal customer.
Last year when they were giving the C&F tube fly boxes away I rang up and asked if I could have one, after a little debate they said yes and would post it asap. It took 3 months to arrive and when it did it was the wrong box, I wanted the tube fly box and got one for trout flies instead. Looks like its going on ebay.

I had the same problem with them during my ongoing flybox negotiations but was eventually given the right one after 6 months of calling and emails. Could they be sourcing their supply from a well known centre of angling retailing in the West of Scotland......

Mine has now arrived after another phone call. Managed to get an extra month's free subscription to make up for my trouble.
Best of luck folks.
