I voted "other tubing" for shrink tubing, normally clear or black.

[Why do you use different junc. tubing for different tube types? It's just something I have always done. I do like the snug flush finish that the PVC gives on a bottle tube, and also it's very clear appearance but!...I do find that the PVC breaks down over a period of time and turns a white/creamy colour.I change it when this happens. [ditto, although for micro tubes I tend to bore the hole out a bit and insert the hook direct as I've not found any tubing that thrills me on micro tubes. Lamson Hi Lamson. I have never tried it this way. What is the fit like?....and what do you bore it out with?. Does the hook become dislodged from the tube during a hookup?...I would worrier a little about leverage issue with such a ridged connection if it didn't,but saying that!...I have found small hooks don't suffer as badly as the larger sizes on this matter.Once a little treble finds it's way home it can be a bugger to extract at times, and all three points usually find a home. I use crimps for my micro tubes and shrink over the tube leaving enough space at the head for tying in the wing.I then dress the body over the shrink, leaving a couple of mm of shrink at the rear to accommodate the eye off the hook.By doing it this way I find it gives a nice connection between hook and tube, and just in case the hook does not dislodge from the tube during a hookup there is still some flexibility in the shrink.....Re: the leverage thing again!. Here's a couple of examples which I use for seatrout, being predominantly a seatrout angler. DAZ.

I voted for clear silicone but I also use bright orange, bright green and black silicone for certain apllication.
For smaller hitched tubes I insert the hook directly into the tube which has very little dressing and then you can vary the fly length to suit the water speed.

CF. On your hitched flies, do you insert the the line via a hole in the side of the tube? or down the middle and tied differently? Robbie

Robbie, I make a hole in the side of the tube at an angle with a hot blunt darning needle. I have tried a dubbling needle but it makes find the hole difficult. (and don't reply that the hole is easier to find if you put more hair around it ;D) CF

I would be more inclined to put the hole between the black head and red floss, it looks like the fly would fish on its side rather than at an angle.

RPS,
The hole is probably a bit low on the last one but the weight of the hook and the wet hair drags it down and keeps everything straight. I have fished this one with no problems and it has a nice v-wake.

A belated response to both Daz and Castleforte:
Daz - Love the Micro tubes. Good photography, How did you get the shots so clear?
CF. On those Hitch flies, I am probably missing something obvious here, but what is the purpose of the red thread? Is it an attractor or is it holding in something/
