It may be worth ensuring that the Oracle rod is the Oracle IV model. This was the model that T&S reviewed so highly a couple of years ago.

Regardless of your shoe size - DON'T BUY THE WADING BOOTS!! I got a pair along with the breathable waders (which are excellent, BTW) and the boots were in tatters in a few weeks. I got a second pair of waders and this time got really good boots but only because the ones on offer were sold out - or more likely they ran out due to replacements. Great price on the rods, though.

Watch this space.
I believe Ian Gordon has some things to do before he goes over to Hardy. A new range of lines and rods under a Shakey brand name already well received are in the offing.

Frank They are doing a series of lines to match the Odyssey d/h'ers which the shorter rods have a lighter line rating than the Oracles

Hi, Oracle IV owners or pundits. My 14yr old son is spending his pocket money on one. If he can only afford one budgetish priced line, what would members/users recommend. He will be doing late spring and early autumn fishing mainly on Tweed/Tummel. I am thinking a DT11 Intermediate plus a couple of 5ft Airflo tips seems best - what would you go for if limited to one line?

Tweedbunnet,
Google "tacklebargains" and once you get into their site, search for "Spey". They have a variety of Airflo lines at very reasonable prices, including multitips. Delivery is often slow - a couple of weeks, but the prices are good and I have had no problem with any stock or transactions

Fruin
Thanks for that - I am keen for him to progress him with learning the basics of the Speycast which he has been having a shot of for 30 minutes or so each time I go fishing recently.
Last Friday, he was up to his knees in water of 40 degrees Farenheight in the Tweed. He had gone in over his wellies as he always does and, I think, just said "Sod it" to himself (very quietly, of course!) He now gives me stick if I make a poor spey cast!!
Might start another Thread about what members think about whether I should get him waders, stick and flotation device for use when we fish big rivers with Sunk Fly in the Spring nextyear

Tweedbunnet,
It will be as much of a learning curve for you as it is for your son, I am sure. My three boys are ages 6, 3, and 1, and I've only had the older two out for a couple of trout and some pike with a wee six foot spinning rod. I really hope, but will not push, that one, two, or all three of them take up fishing. So, if you learn any pearls of wisdom about keeping them interested, please pass them on for use in the future.

There's a great deal on Oracle IV Rods at reelsndeals.com I just bought a kit comprising of an any length rod , I got a 15 footer,a decent reel with backing and a line of your choice already loaded,a rod tube and a selection of flies, all for just £119.99 Free postage and I got it next day too !!! You can pay with paypal as well if you're worried about online credit card stuff, which is an added bonus. I was that impressed I bought another 12 footer a few days later since its free post over £25. I used to use mullarkeys also but this lot are cheaper and don't charge any postage. ;D
