Hi Robbie,
have been up to Lazonby with Glynn in June - he was teaching my wife the basics of Speycasting on the Sage 9140-4 - worked a treat as she got her first salmon in July!. Meantime I got 3 good offers in the dark high June Lazonby water on a black/yellow intruder, no hook-ups.
I'm back to Lazonby next week, to wet a line again, and I understand Glynn will be there. I'll give him your regards.

My last remaining one , a Sharpes Scottie 10' no 7 , finally expired a couple of years ago after a violent fight with a 6lb seatrout in a very limited playing area. There weren't 2 parts of it hingin' straight after that one.

Speyducer,
Until recently I still used a 13' or 15' Sharpes Spliced rod. They work very well with 'modern' salmon lines and are excellent in winds which would bring tears to the eyes of all but your Meiser rods! (which also have a low wind-profile!).
I gave up using Hardy rods years ago as they were not reliable..went soft in wet/humid weather etc. But I sold my last ferruled rod about 3 years ago - a Payne 12' rod, though I still have one in mint condition. These are without doubt in my mind the acme of the Bamboo double-handed rod. There seems to have been a (Payne) scam attempt on eBay this week...usual first-time seller who is all of a sudden no longer a member. But if you ever come across one in good condition buy it...there is nothing like it.
Bob Clay is making excellent rods (spliced) in, I think, Western Canada. One of the Carron team told me that he had tried one and was very impressed. Bob's daughter evidently cast a very long line with one at Golden Gate this year.
I am sure that Glynn's rods also (above) have great integrity if he can get hold of good bamboo clum stock.
However MOST bamboo rods suck - as some would say!!
