Does anybody own any of these reels? They are on Mullarkeys website at a reasonable price, if so what would you compare them with.

Billy,
I got one this summer my sea trout set up - 8/9 loaded with a No 8 line. Good amount of backing space - at least 150yrds and more then I would think required for sea trout.
The reel for me is okay - nothing startling in comparison to my salmon reels, but has a nice feel to the drag when set at the right level. What I have found is the drag adjustment is very sensitive - by that - a mere tweek of a turn can greatly loosen the drag to "overloose". The same doesn't happen when tightening up the drag so not so bad here - but if you're playing a fish and need to "slacken off" just a touch - keep a bit it palm rim control on check - just in case.
For the money (GAC I think around £55.00 reduced), I'm happy for sea trout - but I'd maybe think twice about salmon size.
A friend I fish with on the R. Awe has the Tica 9/10 salmon reel and he has said the same thing re slightest of touches reducing the drag invariably overdoes it.

If anyone ever goes to the Costa Blanca they will find the Tica reels on sale there, and from what the wife was saying they are pretty cheap.

Would concur with Altmor, loosening the drag can send it into free spin. I usually set it quite light with the view to winding the drag up. Got the 10/11 model for £51 delivered when GAC were selling it for around £100 ;D If I was buying again I would get another PFLUEGER TRION - haven't been able to find a better reel for the money. Don't know if anyone has noticed but there is another reel on the go at the moment retailing at £100+ (allegedly) that can be picked up for under £30 if you know where to look

Are you referring to the Trion there Colin, I'd go for that at £30.00 - it's a good reel as you say.
