hi ryann, shakespeare do a couple of rods the odyssey and the orical. i have never used any of them but a lot of people do use them, pretty cheap as well i think around the £50 and £70 mark , for a reel i use a magnum 200d and it is a good reel for like £40, as for lines on my 13" rod i just use the airflo 40 plus trout lines (ooh shame on me i know ) but they work a treat you can get 2 for £50 a floater and an intermediate is all you need, mabye some polyleaders and you have it all. hope this helps ryann. scotty.

Ah the old 200 D reels are one of the best reels for playing large fish. I have had one from when they first came out and still use it today!
Ryann try to get few rods to try as they all are slightly different and your casting style will be suited to one. Maybe not the first rod you try but you will find one within budget.
As for line, well if this is your first outfit then buy two lines, floating and intermediate. I would by a normal wf line. I think you might find the 40+ could be a bit much for a first line! But hey if you feel you can cast one then by all means go for it.
Let us know what you buy.
Cheers Wm

Hi Ryann, try Mullarkys direct-£49.99 for the 15ft 3piece Oracle down to £39.99 for the 12ft,give them a ring they will do an out fit under pricing the £205 you have been quoted,Glasgow AC will do the 4 piece in an outfit for£170.Take my advice and unless you only fish small overgrown rivers go for the 15ft rod with an 11# line preferably a floater, the difference in cash will buy you some poly-tips and some good flies. Tight lines,Pedro.

I Got a 14ft 4 section Shakespeare Oracle Stillwater Large Arbour Real Grxi Speylines Floating And Medium Sinking. Its a pity you did'nt heed what jjtt61 was telling you about the Oracle 3-4 pieced rods, the 3 pce has a different action from the 4pce which is softer, ok, you'll get the 4 pce in the boot, but the action is what its all about.

The four piece is the better rod. It was this model that won the tackle tests.

Good pick Ryan, hope you get on well with the set up, if i'm correct, the grxi spey line has a head lenght of aroung 50ft which is perfect for learning. Let me know how you get on.
