September 2006 - I was sorry to hear that Yuri Shumakov died whilst fishing on the Kola Peninsula in Russia last month. I shall miss his sense of humour and his intense enthusiasm for salmon fishing. It was a pleasure to help arrange fishing on the River Dee for his 50th birthday in March this year - a trip he regarded as a visit to the home of salmon fishing. You can see some photos of Yuri Shumakov's visit to Scotland here ; (broadband recommended) web.mac.com/malcolmmcleman/iWeb/Fishing%20SIte/Yuri%20Shumakov.htmlMalcolm A McLeman September 2006

I was told by an Italian rod fishing with us on Friday 1ST thatYuri Shumackov had died of a heart attack, fishing on the Kola Peninsula. I think he said it was on the 24TH July but I'm not sure. A sad loss.

I never knew him personally, but it is a sad loss for the sport and my thought s go to those that knew him.

its quite fitting he passed away on the river bank, probably as he would have wanted it
