A friend and I fished Rome Croy on the Tay on Saturday, and with a wait of more than an hour to get into the recognised pools, I decided to fish the streamy water below the Woody Hole. This seemed to make sense as there were a lack of resident fish and we were realistically fishing for running fish. My pal Russell had got bored and was sitting on the bank watching me and bemoaning the queues for the best pools, when I caught and landed a 7lb sea licer. I couldn't resist - "Aye, there's a wee lesson Russell; when you're going for running fish, if your flies not in the water you might miss the minute they go past you" . Anyway, I stepped out and Russell went in. I walked back up to the top of the stream and started again. Within five minutes I was into another fish about the same size, however, within about two minutes the fish and fly were away. I had forgotten to check the knot after unhooking the first fish. I must have nipped the leader with the forceps. Russell couldn't resist - "Aye, and there's another wee lesson!!!" ;D A photo of the one that stuck...

Thanks folks.
Ross,
I will make it up to the Don at some point. Last weekend was the perfect situation, if only it had some water in it. The way it's going this year, it will be the Spring before I make it up there again.

Help ma boab Gary, that must be the weeist fish caught in that area for months. I've heard nothing but tales of BIG ,well biggish, fish of very high teens from down the river ! ! On a more serious note though, well done my man,a wee stoater. I hope all is well.

Dennis, good to see you back on the board There were only four caught that day and none of them were large. The best bit was hooking two and landing one, when the recycler from Pitlochry never got a touch ;D I heard he was fishing the other day and chapped four fish on the head

No doubt all four were bleeding badly,or had fought themselves to the bitter end :'(As a member of the Scottish committee Trout and Salmon Ass'n and therefore a firm supporter of C/R he could'nt have chapped them . HOW VERY DARE ANYONE SUGGEST OTHERWISE ! Perhaps it was an accident......or they were murdered whilst he searched for his forceps amongst his C/R videos and fishing articles to get the hook out before gently releasing them. Accidents do happen Gary, they do .....honest

This thread is starting to ring bells, or maybe it was another conservation minded Pitlochry angler I was thinking about, the one who does have internet access.
