This was the other fish I caught on the Lune a couple of weeks ago. It was around 12-13lb with a very strange tail (or no tail as the case may be ): Any thoughts on what happened to its tail ? Gary

personally i think the marks are off fish escapeing from mono or multi mono gill nets, set bey poachers. usually the dorsal fin is effected by the nylon netting,ie: sliced or scar-ed in some way,but its not unusual to see the tails of fish sliced like the one in the pic,ive had fish which have bore the same marks as the one in the foto, and they had been in a net at sometime in their life!!. marks from seals and nets heal up eventually, but seals attack from the side or flank of the fish i think! now they is going to be those that argue! ok it makes no real difference which way the seal attacks, cos where ive wittnesssed fish deformaties and scar-ed fish is well up river from the tide.and where poaching used to be more than rife-so to me it looks like a net mark
