first thing scotty you will have to know what river youre fishing, this is not the fyne its the 500 yards long river garrion that is fully tidal right into the loch ,

At 500yrds long - is there a physical barrier at the head of 500yrds, ie waterfalls / weirs or is it a loch at it's head, presume it's not Loch Fyne your saying, ie, at the bottom end ? I don't know the water at all - but looks interesting. Altmor

its the loch at the top ,then the river shira above that, the river in the photo is no use with fly being tidal no runs on it, its great at the mouth with a bubble and strip of herring.
like most rivers now it had a bad decline in fish, but years ago i doubt you would have fished better as i said a 19lb seatrout came out the loch, you can get a permitt for the loch £25 a day from argyll estates
