Just back from a couple of days on the Easky - with all the rain we had some very good sport. I got a 10lb licer, bg110960 got a 10.5lber and 8lber and my other friend a 8lber. All liced/in couple of days and all on 10ft rods ;D
Another 3 similar good sized fish lost - including one I lost in a freak accident . Hooked the fish at the tail of a pool, was playing it for 3-4mins and had it on the reel, happy days I thought. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw a big branch about 7ft long coming down the pool. Just as it drew level with me the fish decided to run straight across the pool and you guessed it snagged the branch. The branch and attached fish then went over the back of the pool and down a set of rapids to the next pool - I couldn't stop them so had to stumble down after them. I was down to the backing at this stage but managed to slow them up in the next pool. However the current caught them and off they went again. This time they went down another set of rapids and I couldn't follow them - the line snapped and as it did my reel spun round at a rate of knots and the handle cracked round onto my thumb. So one lost fish, 2 flies and a very sore thumb. Still a story to remember ;D
the good/promising news is that at this time of the year the average size of the fish has typically been around the 4lbs mark, its still too early to say for certain but our fish are quite a bit bigger - so hopefully the removal of the Irish nets may already be making a difference. Will be interesting to see at the end of the season if this trend continues
