Hi Guys, Any experience of these hooks breaking?? The ghillie at Craigellachie last week spotted them in a pals fly box and declared them as cr*p, they broke too easily!! My pal was a bit miffed as he had been told they were the dogs boll**ks of fly hooks and had not experienced a break. Unfortunately that afternoon on the lower beat after a fight of some 15 minutes with a fish of 8-10lbs the very hook broke at the bend! You can all imagine the stick from the ghillies after that, especially as we had lost some 7 fish at that stage. The stick is sure to run for some months yet!! Photo attached, hopefully

Springer,
It will be interesting to hear what Partridge say, the ghillie reckons he's had a few break but he couldn't break my silver salar double!!
And no the fish was only 8-10lbs and on a final run after almost netting it.

I had a bad experience with Partridge singles before. It was with the Bartleet range in the smaller sizes. They used to break in the vice under minimal pressure. I was, generally, wary of Partridge hooks after that and still don't use any of there single hooks.
I've never had a problem with their doubles.

Can't say I've ever had problems with Partridge hooks - BUT I think I'm right in saying that all hook production was moved to China last year.
Cheap labour costs, but perhaps you get what you pay for.

This is not good news - hopefully just the golds which I don't use (is that selfish?!!) but have had problems with Partridge hooks before but as they are part of Mustad now (right?) you'd think any tempering issues would be sorted. Have to keep an eye on that - but haven't had a salar 'go' yet.
