Off to fish the mighty lower Tay next week so a few huge tobys and kynoch killers might come in handy (with 6ft a extra water coming down!!).
Does anyone know where i could get some between Newcastle and Stanley driving up on a Sunday?
Everywhere will be closed i imagine but worth an ask???

If you are fishing a beat with a ghillie, you could phone and ask if there will be any available to purchase on the day. Floating devons worked slowly along the bottom work well. Obviously with a weight attached to the swivel above - some kind of bait controller rig, can't remember the name of the weights(excuse the flyfisher's ignorance :

You want to borrow the Kola again ? Think you might struggle casting big tobies on the 9/10 Norway...

Thanks for the advise all. I spoke with one of the team i'm going up with last night whom assures me he has plenty of spare spinners that i can borrow provided i don't loose them of course.
Dave: I'm happy with the Norway and my new sinker so i'll just stick with that i think. Did enjoy the Kola on the Beauly though...
Malcolm: You know i'm a fly fisherman 95% of the time, have you ever seen the Pitlochry Pool!
Owen: Thanks very much for the offer, very kind but looks like i'm sorted now.
Fruin: How did you get on today? Nice drop of water in could be good next week if it stays settled.
Speyvalley: It is Benchil & Pitlochry yes, fished it once before and really like the water and gillie's. Have you fished it?

I was at catholes on the 17th. Big river and a bit daunting. Devons with spinning leads were the order of the day. Out harling for the first time. You can get very cold that way. i am glad i tried it but i prefer a smaller river and an opportunity to use my fly rod as well as the spinner.

Not long home after a day on Kercock. Never had anything this morning, however, another angler had two kelts to the fly.
After lunch I managed two kelts on the fly. Sink tip, with a large black, yellow and silver conehead(tungsten).
The water was sitting around the 5ft mark, so it was probably too high to hold any running fish back in the pools.
Thoroughly enjoyed my day on this beat, as I always do. It is a beautiful beat with a bit of everything, from slow water to very fast water and shallow water to water that is at least 40ft in depth.
Even though I fish it on the Perth and District Angling Association ticket, the ghillie(Dennis Buchan) always has time to spend with all the guests and PDAA members alike. Always full of good advice and makes everybody feel welcome. A great beat with a great atmosphere.
Bill, the unofficial ghillie was also excellent company.
Good fly water, good company, good humour - what more could you ask for - good fly water, good company, good humour.
