Any guys out there with information on using them for salmon.
I'm a bit puzzled about how early to tighten.
Experience from the Camel and Fowey would be much appreciated.

These are the hooks used on the Camel/Fowey, they were supplied by the E.A in conjuntion with our conservation measures. Unfortunately I am not really able to give much advice as I am not big bait fisher as I prefer to spin, but I have heard that for good lip hooking you need the fish downstream and going away from you, but the general idea is that if the fish swallows the hook, it should?, slide out the stomach and hook on the lip, easy!.

Salmo salar 25lb,
That was my impression too. I.e. tighten rather than strike, but still give it time to turn.
cheers

The same subject is in the flyfishing section .I put a couple of posts in there which may be of help. The hooks I have seen used are in fact the Eagle Claw Circle hooks which although very strong the would seem to me to be a much lighter gauge than the hooks shown above, Have a look, hope it helps, even a little.
