Your right we do all want to see more salmon in the system. It is because of people like you’ and the effort that sometimes seems thankless, although people like me greatly appreciate your efforts. Anglers who fish for salmon with worms, seldom lose fish once hooked, a lot less than those fishing the fly or spinning. Fishing a pool with the worm, can be even more intricate, than a pool fished with the fly. I have fished both, although for the last number of years; I have only fished the fly. I can watch other anglers and appreciate there skill, in fishing the worm’ in the right hands it is far from chuck it and chance it.

I sometimes inject the worm with air using a hypodermic needle that you can get from any chemist. This lifts it off the bottom just that bit depending on how far your weight is, I also use a running ball weight so the more you tighten the line to lower down in the water the worm is, Slack line the worm floats... Used the syringe method back in my pike fishing days before I went straight. Just make sure that you don't inject yourself at the same time as the bait. You wouldn't be the first to die of a self induced embolism. Bait on hard surface and other hand out the way , no probs.
