Looking to get some ruby red ones in a smalll size.Any one know where I can get some of these floating devons down to 1" size or slightly smaller. Any help most appreciated. Tay specialists PD Mallochs in Perth normally carry wee floating red devons including ones < 1" 259 Old High Street Perth Perthshire PH1 5QN Tel 01738 632316 They do mail order. Not sure what they will be like for controller floats. Would have thought one of the big coarse fishing discount centres like Mullarkys or Tackle Bargains would be a good bet. Hope you find what you are looking for. CLaG

Good site, hadn't come across Mac the Minnow before. I think you may be right on Mallochs with other coloured Devon's, but they normally keep the floating red ones in smaller sizes down to 3/4" (I bought some earlier in the season), although at this time of year these are the ones they tend to run out of first!

Go to mac for your Devons. Mallochs in Perth are either out of stock or they charge far too much Experience has shown that when looking for tackle do not expect to just walk into Mallochs and get it. They never have anything in stock when you need it.

Mallochs have unearthed half a dozen 3/4" ruby red and are keeping them for me but I will see what they look like and what they are going to charge me first. But I will keep Mac in mind as well.

I saw a crude but effective homemade version of a floating red devon used on the Isla last year - I was told it originated from the Esks - not sure which ones. It was made from a hollow piece of wood roughly tapered at each end by a knife - I was told the hollow wood was some type of skewer used in abatiors . A couple of fins were attached but these seemed to cause it to flutter as much as spin. It was fished on a light rig similar to that used with conventional floating devons. It certainly proved attrative to the fish - taking a couple that had refused the usual array of flies, flying Cs, rapalas and snakes! It did occur to me that it was so light it could be fished off a fly rod Anyone else come across this bait and know where to get the wooden skewers? CD
