Can anyone recommend a fixed spool reel to use with an 8 foot rod?
I will be using 8 or 10lb line with a 10g Toby or Mepps spinner.
I had in mind the Shimano Exage 4000 or a Baitrunner GT 5000. Will these be too big? The Baitrunner seems quite heavy at 500grams.
Thoughts appreciated.

I've loaded 10lb & 14lb braid on it.

I have both shimano 5000 baitrunner models and both worth work well on my shakesphere 8 ft and on the Greys 10ft. Neither of them feel that heavy when on the rods, and that is why I bought them.

Thanks Sloggi and Yorks Esk,
I too have the Missionary, ideal for small rivers and can be kept in the boot of the car. It seems you cann't go wrong with a Shimano. I will keep a look out for the 5000 Baitrunner or a 4000 Stradic.

I find that if you dont want to spend loads but have a good reel, than i use an okumu interseptor. I find this reel brilliant and i have had a 28lb carp on it as well as countless other fish, they can certainly cope

I used a Mitchell Avocet with my 8 foot rod and found it excellent. It comes with a spare spool and holds plenty line. Good drag as well. Nice tidy compact reel.
