In my tight fisted approach to salmon fishing have been on the Welsh Wye a fair bit this year ,I realise I should swallow my pride and try spinning .I own a ABU 6000 multiplier and some half reasonable fixed spool reeels ,what sort of rod would people recomend ,needs to be VFM . Who does the best deals on spinning leads and baits ! Help me pop my spinning cherry !

A lot of people will probably reccomend Shimano rods and while they are good, you could pick up something decent a lot cheaper in a local tackle shop. There's hundreds to choose from - why not have a look and get one you like the feel off? I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a good rod for around £40. "swallowing your pride" If you really feel like that about spinning then save your money.

[/quote] Donnie ,I have for years pontificated that with a fly rod I could out fish a spinner ,skills wise I fly fish far better than I spin .The Wye has lots of water that needs spinning rather than the fly unless I want to shoot shed loads of line and strip it back all day long . heading for my 60s and hard work does'nt make sense . What lenght rod ?casting weigth ?

Don't know the Wye but I would guess a 10 footer would do just about anywhere. 20-40g or similar. Don't go shorter than 10 foot but if you go too long it might start getting heavy.
