Just joined this club - anyone else on here a member?
Its got some water on the Tyne, South Tyne, North Tyne, Rede, Coquet, Till, Whiteadder, Border Esk etc so pretty varied! Any pointers on how to narrow the choices down or any reminisces on fishing its waters? Any advice much appreciated..- JJ

Like Wilbert, I have access to TAS waters through my club. Haven't fished there Tyne waters, but I scouted them out in low water last summer.
I wasn't too impressed to be honest, but the South Tyne beat looked the nicest fly water - but the S Tyne needs extra water to fish well. The N Tyne beat at Cholleford looked to have a good holding pool, but not a fly water unfortunately.
They have nice water on the Whiteadder and access to some Border Esk beats as well.
Look on the bright side JJ, the salmon fishing in Northumberland & the Borders is far better than in Cheshire!!

Greetings JJ, You will be on some good water with Tyneside Anglers Syndicate waters. I am always keen to renew as I find it excellent fishing at an excellent cost! It would take me a while to disclose my favourite bits, so pm me if you have particular areas in mind. I myself love to fish Tweed, but never feel terribly disadvantaged if conditions suggest a TAS beat on one of the tribs is a better bet. The Whiteadder is a truly lovely place to fish and improving ssshh! The tyne beats are good, for fly too, once you know the productive bits. The B.Esk is nice too but as is widespread the last 3 seasons havn't been a patch on what came before. If I can help, ask me, I probably pass you within the first 30mins of my regular trips North!

The Chollerford water has a nice stream at the top that fishes the fly fine, although the wading can be tricky in high water. It is club water and as such not comparable to the best beats around, but it offers a good chance of a fish at the right time of year and water conditions, which is fair enough. I personally will not renew this year, but will take more days on private beats.

So where can someone find out about joining the T A S. Is there a website to view or do people need to be in know of members that can point them in the right direction on how to join.

you will be lucky if you get a response off dave carrick, ive rang him , written letters to him, emailed him , but am still none the wiser about joining t.a.s. the only time ive had any response off him is when my subscription ran out for northern game angler magazine and he wanted a cheque. (funny eh)

I sent Dave an email yesterday evening and to my surprise, I got a reply to my questions that I asked him. The only thing I am not sure about is, how often can you fish all this water, when some are two rod days etc.

As far as I am aware its a first come first served basis for booking onto the private beats that TAS has 2 rods on. I have not had chance to fish these yet but this year I will make the effort to get out and about more unless the Ribble fishes very well.

Sadly Wilbert, the private Beats fished by TAS are only bookable, or fished by, full members. So TAS sharing arrangements/rod swaps with other clubs may not give a true appraisal. The Border Esk, Ettrick and Whiteadder beats TAS fishes are all opposite, or adjoining, fishings that cost 25-50% of what I pay each year~ PER DAY! So I'm always happy to pay up, and use it when I deem it favourable. I suppose that is half the battle(and fun!)- finding an affordable and worthwhile place to have a go! I love the River Tweed, but am equally aware that by process of homework you can fish the tributaries, even the main River, for nominal sums and still have great sport. I have no in-depth knowledge- yet- of the TAS Tyne beats. I have fished them a fair bit for years. Some Rods are really excellent fishers with the fly, and they do have some amazing catches from non Spey-type water! Tyne water is always tinged browny and I have had a good 75% of my catch on spinner! Wading can be naughty too, but I'm learning that.
