Having expressed interest in this with an intention of taking some back-end fishing, and having had an illuminating but from what I understood very sensible chat with the Factor,I have recieved a note of proposed back-end charges for next season.
Sit tight now.................................
Sept/October-£323.13 a day inc VAT.
Only last three years averages provided but 110 fish for both months, fly and spinner, with extra rods above the 8 usual syndicate rods presumbly.
Assuming catches hold-up as there'll be no tinslinging, thats 9 weeks producing 220 fish.
220/9 weeks is 24 fish per week.
24 fish split between 2 beats is 12 fish a beat per week.
12 fish for 24 rod days=2 fish for the week expectation for a total cost of £1940 plus accomodation, travel, whisky and tips rounding you up to £2,500 for the week at the least.
Bearing in mind, loss of fishing due to high water,a skewed average due to 2004 being a good year and it being fished by largely unfamiliar teams (and probably not crews!!!) looks ball- achingly expensive to me.
So lets see what the alternatives are on some tried and tested rivers in the same general price bracket.........................................
Middle Tweed-same time £250 a day, Lower Tweed-same time of year £325 a day. Dee-prime spring-£150 a day. Spey-prime stuff if you can get a rod-£300 a day
I'm sure Tay,Ness and Esks experts will all have similar comparisons.
Over to the fellow SFF members for their learned views.......

£323.13 I know where I would rather fish and with any luck catch a fish. It certainly wouldn't be Bywell at that price. Never mind one days fishing you could nearly get 3 days surely on a prime river on a good beat.

Thanks for sharing that info ZH. It had been feared that this would be the result at Bywell for many years by people who fish the river most regularly; including people that are/were fishing Bywell rods.
I fished Bywell for the first time last season at the end of September and shared a rod with a friend for £100. I have fished quite a few places in the UK and to be honest i felt like i had my fingers burnt, and was bored before lunch time. Compare this to a late April day on the likes of Carron on the Spey for much less than £100, for instance. There really is NO comparison in terms of value for money and quality of fly fishing.
I hope that people read this and they are aware of what they will actaully get for their money (all £330 of it!!!). Also, as ZH mentioned, October is frequently a wash out on the main river - and how true this can be.

Sept/October-£323.13 a day inc VAT. What a rip off! I think I will fish my club water in Lancashire which will catch a similar number of fish with less rods out. A years fishing for the cost of one day on the Tyne, its a real no brainer for me. I hope that this doesn't have a massive knock on effect for all the local anglers up on the Tyne with inflated prices on rented water. As Springer says the Tyne is good but not £300 a day good.

Interesting reading-after all I'm not a Communist but not the way IMHO to start-up a new weekly let fishery, even with a "Game Fair" launch. Thought there'd be more indignant comment from members and Tyne fishers,or are you all still in shock.........................!!!!!!!!!! ZH

My Sea-trout Special 10'6" has the same problem but is a great night fshing rod as it has more feel in the back cast than a modern cabon poker and is supple enough to Spey cast with. Also good with heavier lines for the second half but it is much slower than an old Mchardy's Fibatube carbon trout rod that is ten years its junior.
Have to go with the HF 10.6 I would not part with mine ,the longer ones are definitely an aquired taste ,Lord Geoff collects them (poor deluded soul) and berates me for sending my HF 15' tubular 11 rated rod to the states as a swap for a 13' St Croix, which is now my go too summer rod ,boy was fishing Grafham with it last weekend That Tubular HF was a mean rod ,nearly dragged me over into the Carron at Gledfeild a few times ,and would handle 10 lbers like a #8rod for wee brownies !
Apologies posted in totally the wrong place ,have shifted it over to tackle .must be senile dementia ,not a drop of booze since yesterday

JEEEEZZZZ This is the Tyne we are talking about, has the world gone mad ! We have hardly seen any fish so far this season, and I have lost count of how many experienced rods I have talked to who are still waiting to get off the mark this year.
IF anyone is thinking about paying these prices please bear in mind that in October of recent years Kielder have frequently let out considerable releases on top of the spates . It could be an expensive gamble.
For those of you like myself who don't have a sympathetic bank manager, you can get access to Tyne fishing without paying that sort of money ...some clubs charge about 25 quid a year . I fished one for years and have had some quality spring fish over the years .

Just did the prime Spring month maths-£93 a day. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm,Dee looks cheap then lads. Wonder if the cost of the fishin' includes a rod licence for those that fish in North Britain where you don't need one and if you don't have one you have to pop off to Hexham Post Office before you can start. Bet the bailiffs lift someone inside the first season for fishing without an EA Licence. ZH

Strutts are marketing it now as well and the bloke in the colour brochure is playing a Sainsbury's bag.
About the same colour and quality as the back end fuishie's there then......................

I enjoy fishing the Tyne (well N/S Tynes, and main trib. the Rede) in various places. Yes, it can be good. But not nearly good enough to charge prices like this. Folk will learn. Quality and quantity of fish should be taken as given at those prices, but there are too many imponderables on this stretch in Sept-Oct. The Tweed could give you a world class tenancy at that price. No way would I consider even a third of that price. "A fool and his money......"

Dissappointing to see April sold out for £94 per rod/day Why? Would you prefer to be on Bywell rather than your week on the Spey?

Mmmm, i didn't think the April price was too bad given the current climate. Wouldn't be tempted myself.
Its just the autumn price's that i think are ludicrous

Didn't think it looks bad value at £94 a poke.
Maybe it' s just the unfortunate price the average Tyne angler is going to to pay for years of a Government subsidised hatchery, cheap club subs, generpous landlords,over-rodded beats, tinslinging tobies at spring fish that have to be released in any event and over zealous trumpeting of the exploits of a lucratively run syndicate in T&S every month................,but I could be wrong.
I hope all three agents are getting full fees the poor buggers.A private agent,Strutts and Davis and Bowring all having a go for fecks sake. It'll be in the Journal Saturday property pull-out next.
Clearly aiming it at grouse shooting clientele-that'll keep it cheap then as these lads don't expect much change from a couple of grand a day.
I hear one of the ghillies is returning to the Tyne Valley from a middle Dee mixed sporting estate and is due to be heading back to the Tyne as I write.

Dissappointing to see April sold out for £94 per rod/day Why? Would you prefer to be on Bywell rather than your week on the Spey? You could fish most Tweed beats for much less than £100/day in April/ May. Looks like most Oct/Sept weeks have already gone, @£2k per rod they must be bonkers!
