Dear tyneandrew
I haven't been shot at for three years, hadn't the police stopped that? If not, where should I avoid? Fortunately the only damage sustained on my last incident involved a pellet hole in my waders, for once I had my suncure at the same time as it was sunny-and it actually worked!
I like the idea of renaming pools, everyone could rename their "favourite" pools!
In consideration of the approaches made to "men" on a Friday, at the anglers car park below Bywell Bridge, perhaps the gut should be renamed the "limp wrist"....that way unknowing anglers may fish it to death in the expectation of getting a limp wrist as a result of catching dozens of fish! Trouble is, the non-flying condoms may give it away. Ha ha ha!
As for the Two Streams, the only feature on that is the broken seat. I bet they put up a gold plated seat now!
On sunday I heard that a guy has booked the house rods below the bridge from 1.9.07 to 31.10.07. Apparently he was after someone to Ghillie! If you want to experience poverty, and be unlikely to receive tips, I could put you in touch!

Merryshields on an evening is always a good spot for being shot.
Andrew is the car park there still a regular 'doggers' haunt??

In all seriousness, amongst the local banter here, a friend of mine was shot in the back with an air rifle by kids on the opposite bank whilst he was fishing here - fact.
The car park seems quieter this year TA, mainly due to the wet weather I guess. In warm periods there will be camper vans, tents, washing hanging out, rubbish on the floor, kids (and not pleasant ones) swimming in the river. Not the kind of place you want to pull up at spending that kind of hard earned.
Some areas are more secluded though i guess

If you want secluded, how about the bushes on the North Bank of the "Two Streams" pool. The noises coming from their suggest it is still a popular spot for couples! Or even threesomes, I've never gone in to check.
I know the kids from the Alder's Chalets had air rifles and used to shoot anything that moved, but that was 5 or 6 years ago and was sorted by police ( I used to be on the phone to them every couple of days!). I thought the only recent problem at Bywell was from kids on the South Bank, who used to wander along the public footpath, but again I thought the problem was sorted a couple of years ago- I certainly haven't been shot at recently.

Just to illustrate the price rise from existing season tickets:
How much was a season ticket for 1 day per week, c£800?
4 days per month say: 16 spring days (feb - may), 12 summer days (jun - aug) & 8 autumn days (Sep - Oct)
De-value that and it works out at £20 per spring day, £15 per summer day & £40 for an autumn day.
Spring price is now up 400% & autumn prices up 800%
Greedy and unrealistic???

Are you not surprised you get this hassle, when the locals hear you talking about "show us your flies" , "Willie Gunn" and "Garry Dog (ging)". . May I suggest that you don't ask to see anyones' "Red Butt" ;D
